Having spent two decades providing design services for The Book of Kells ‘Turning Darkness to Light’ exhibition at the Old Library in Trinity College, it was a real pleasure for Boyle Design Group to create a commemorative mark and associated materials to celebrate the Tercentenary of this glorious old building.
With a vast amount of subject matter to take inspiration from in this building from its striking barrel-vaulted ceiling to the typography of over 200,000 of the library’s oldest books, we settled on a ‘play’ of the original bibliotheca library stamp to commemorate this special anniversary.
The real challenge was to distil the wealth of rich graphical resources at our disposal to create a visual essay which would represent 300 years of Irish history, learning and culture. Our work included the production of twenty-eight large format window graphics to surround the entire building, and the creation of new ticketing and information for the 400,000 tourists who visit each year, along with press advertising, banner graphics, branded apparel, posters and invitations.
More recently we were commissioned to design, produce and install on-campus visitor wayfinding, location and attraction signage... all in all, very satisfying work for a fantastic institution, and for one of our oldest clients!
